Master Class: Entertainment-Education and Social Change Communication in Theory and Practice

min. 7 max 12 participants
Optional dates: 13th June, 22th August, 3rd October, 7th November 2014

Introduction
Health, environmental and other prosocial experts use different media and communication strategies for facilitating processes of social change. This course focuses on the Entertainment-Education (EE) Communication Strategy for Social Change and how to apply it in various project settings.

Entertainment-Education means two specialisms with one goal. It brings together the best of two worlds. It delivers entertainment with added value. Media professionals are trained to address large audiences, especially with entertaining formats. However, the media also has a social responsibility, which is now receiving increased attention. Social and health organizations maintain very good contacts with their target groups and have a wealth of content expertise on different subjects at their disposal. Bringing these two together is obvious, but often harder than expected, as it concerns two totally different working cultures, each with their own rules and practices.
The Master Class combines theoretical, practical and interactive elements to reach highest learning outcomes for the (practical and/or research-based) working context of the participants. The course is facilitated by EE professionals of the Center for Media & Health, the Expertise Center on Entertainment-Education in Europe.

Objectives
The course provides participants with key concepts of the Entertainment-Education strategy, prosocial change communication and campaigning, interactive, cross- and transmedia story telling, the design and production of media entertainment interventions including potentials and challenges in application.
Through interactive exercises and various feedback mechanisms the participants will be able to apply the EE models in their own working environment. The participants will become competent to access different Entertainment-Education intervention measurements, from the first steps of setting up the intervention, to the design, implementation and monitoring.

Participants
The course is developed for professionals and change agents, staff members of NGO’s and governmental organizations active in the health, sustainability or social sector, and researchers who want to get a profound background on how to communicate prosocial issues to specific target group(s) via Entertainment-Education.
